School celebrates silver jubilee
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, August 19
Hollyhock Nursery School, Civil Lines, one of the oldest nursery school of the city, celebrated its silver jubilee here today.

All 175 children of the school participated in a colourful cultural programme. They sang songs and danced on the latest Hindi and English numbers. The school Principal, Ms Amrita Garewal, cut the cake on the occasion.

She said the school was set up in August 1977 at times when most parents preferred to send their children directly to high schools. Parents had to be personally convinced to send their kids to the school at that time, she said. She said the school started with nine students and the strength rose to over 50 in the very first year. Now, the total strength had been limited to 175 for the pre-nursery and nursery classes, she said.

She said the school was started in two rooms and now its building had eight rooms and a huge open space. She said the total strength per section was fixed at 25 so that all kids could get proper attention. Psychologists and psychiatrists were invited from time to time to assess the overall mental development of students, she said.

She said students of the earlier batches were now settled as renowned doctors and businessmen in the city. She said a first batch student of the school was working as a teacher with the school.

When asked, whether she would like to expand the school, she replied in the negative and said she would instead endeavour to further improve the standards.
