The DIG of the Chandigarh police, Mr Ajay Kashyap, today said that nine stolen vehicles lying unclaimed at the Traffic Police Lines in Sector 29 here have been successfully matched with the help of the recently commissioned vehicles coordination centre. The centre had been set up with the assistance of the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB).
The vehicles were traced after checking 135 vehicles lying at the lines. He said the matched vehicles were one Tata truck, six scooters and two motor cycles which were stolen from Hyderabad, Indore, Delhi, Faridabad and Raipur.
The DIG said the new facility remained open from 9 am to 8 pm on all working days and from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturday and Sunday. To make the system more effective, a meeting of the second hand car dealers was being convened at the police headquarters. The car dealers would be given vehicle enquiry forms.
He said the car dealers would also be made accountable for getting the police verification of a second hand vehicle. Besides, the beat constables were also being briefed about the markets of second hand cars.&nbs
