Cong, BJP welcome for alliance: HVC Hamirpur, June 26 He said no single party would be able to form a government in the state and the HVC would play a major role in the formation of the government. He said the party was ready to contest all 68 Assembly seats by itself in the state. The HVC chief chided those who say that the party had no mass base. He invited such persons to visit Ghumarwin in Bilaspur district on July 6 at time of the annual foundation day of the party. He claimed that the strength of the party was increasing by the day and it would emerge as a major party in the state after the elections. Mr Sukh Ram blamed a former Chief Minister, Mr Virbhadra Singh, for the present political and fiscal mess in the state. He said the state was facing one of the worst fiscal crisis and it would be difficult for the next government to manage its day-to-day affairs due to a heavy debt trap. He alleged that the “failure” of the successive governments to give Himachal Pradesh its share on the basis of the Reorganisation Act in the Bhakra, Shanan and Pong dam projects and grant of the generation tax proved costly for the state. He said if the issue of the generation tax was not decided during the tenure of the Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, it would be difficult to get it implemented from any other person. The HVC would extend full support to the state government on the issue. Mr Sukh Ram said the HVC would contest the next elections on the plank of fiscal crisis. Mr Sukh Ram admitted that the HVC had committed a mistake by contesting the Shimla Municipal Corporation elections. However, he said the election results had proved that the BJP could do nothing in Shimla without the help of the HVC and if it again failed to have a truck with the HVC it would fare badly in the next elections. He denied having held talks with BJP dissidents of Hamirpur. He said some persons had approached him for talks but no such talks took place last night. Mr Sukh Ram said he was opposed to the formation of more districts in the state. He said more districts should not be formed since the state was under a fiscal debt. He, however, said if need be, rationalisation of areas could be done to give proper shape to all 12 districts. |
Tourist
flow picks up in June Kumarhatti, June 26 Hotels have been witnessing a boom in their business owing to healthy occupancy rate in this month. Things started
changing after mid-June when most of the hotels of the region registered 30-40 per cent increase in their occupancy rate. Some of the standard hotels are currently registering 100 per cent occupancy. Even though the trouble-ridden Gujarat state had cast its shadow on the tourist season but factors such as, summer vacations in schools, pleasant weather just at hour drive from plains have helped. After witnessing a slump in the business there is hope to surpass last year’s business if the current record rush of the tourists are any indication, General Manager of Pine Wood Hotel at Barog, a state government-owned hotel said, adding that from June 15 onwards the hotel has been registering 100 per cent occupancy. The other private hotels along the highway have the same story to tell where the occupancy rate is presently running between 60 to 70 per cent as compared to a poor below 40 per cent rate in the past months. The arrival of the highway vendors offering roasted butta to motorists has added colour to the joy ride to hills. Similarly the highway dhabas have experienced sharp increase in business these days. |

Mutilated records hamper demarcation Kumarhatti, June 26 Dhar ki Behr and Batohl villages of this panchayat do not have authentic revenue records. The physical demarcation of land of these villages was not available even then junior revenue officials registered land. No case can be registered, as the police is helpless due to lack of revenue records. Repeated representations to the authorities concerned have failed to improve the situation. Startling facts about the discrepancies in revenue record had come to light in 1992 during a land dispute case. In a civil suit to Senior Sub-Judge, Solan, the Tehsildar of Kasauli was appointed as local commissioner to demarcate the disputed site. The Tehsildar expressed his inability to do so as the relevant revenue records were in a bad condition. “How so many deeds were effected and several persons made agriculturists after the enactment of the HP Land Reforms and Tenancy Act when no ‘tatima’ can be made of land purchased, Mr Ramesh Gupta, resident of Dhar ki Behr, asked. The Deputy Commissioner, Solan, had also made various references for undertaking settlement operation in these villages to avoid the multiplicity of litigation but to no avail. Mr Jagdish Sharma, Tehsildar, Kasauli, under whose jurisdiction the area falls, admitted that the revenue records of these villages were in a mutilated condition. |
