Locking up of comrades irks DMCH union
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, June 24
The dispute between the employees union and the management of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital worsened today when some persons loyal to the management allegedly locked up some employees to prevent them from joining the agitation.

Mr Chander Mohan Kalia, president of the union; Ms Navraj Kaur, its joint secretary; and Ms Rajwant Randhawa and Mr Irfan Ahmed, its members; in a joint statement issued here today, said the incident showed the management’s desperation and its unwillingness to restore peace. Mr Kalia said: “The management’s charges are baseless and the union has been agitating peacefully. We are, now, being forced to adopt violent means.”

The union leaders said they had met Dr S.C. Ahuja, Principal of the college, and Dr Rajoo Singh Chinna, its Medical Superintendent (P), to initiate a dialogue for a peaceful solution to the problem, but the management seemed uncooperative.

The union leaders said, due to this stalemate, patients and the hospital were suffering. “The DMCH has become a one-man show run by Mr Prem Nath Gupta, Secretary of the DMCH Managing Society, who is against the union,” Mr Kalia said.

The union leaders said they would continue their peaceful agitation as long as their demands were not met.
