PAU website full of flaws
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, June 20
Although the Punjab Agricultural University authorities have made tremendous efforts to revive their official website which had been lying defunct for almost four years, several technical flaws continue to exist in it.

While the university authorities had sought comments on shortcomings and solutions to improve its website www.pau.edu from some Delhi based experts, the site had been termed as ‘‘static HTML- based website with no flexibility of website content’’.

Besides, it had been pointed out that links to other pages needed to be improved, site search facility be added, interaction be increased by adding FAQ (frequently asked questions) section and loading phone numbers and separate e-mail addresses for queries based on admissions, fees, research, alumni and jobs.

It may be recalled that the PAU had launched its website almost four years back but the site had not been updated ever since. Last month, Dr V.K. Sharma, Registrar, had assigned the duty of faculty members of the Department of Journalism to handle the content part and faculty members of the Department of Computer Sciences to take care of the technical aspects. New pages with updated information were added to the website but old pages with stale information had yet not been removed.

The new pages include those on weekly arrival of periodicals in library but these too were based on information of second week of May, almost a month old. Last date for filling of applications for various posts which was over was still being highlighted on the first page of the site. Besides, several new links to facilitate interaction with farmers such as telephone helpline giving phone numbers along with names of agricultural experts in different fields, new courses for farmers, PAU experts’ advice for farmers and seminars or workshops being held for them had been set up.

ABVP flays proposed hike in tuition fee
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, June 20
The district unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has condemned the decision of Punjab Government to effect an increase in the tuition fee structure for technical and higher education.

The district president and member of the Punjab State Executive of ABVP, Mr Sandeep Kapoor, has flayed the anti-student’s policies of the Finance Minister, Mr Lal Singh and the Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, saying the government had made education a source of income by hiking the fees. “In the present Budget, education has not been given much priority. The hike in tuition fee will make it impossible for students belonging to middle class families to go for technical and higher education.”
