Ludhiana, June 7
The clean-up campaign by the new Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, Mr S.K. Sharma, is on.

With barely a week in office, he yesterday ordered the suspension of two octroi clerks when a surprise inspection on June 5 at the GT Road (Ambala side) octroi check-post revealed that a sum of Rs 1613 was short in cash. Mr Sharma that night also inspected streetlights around the Jalandhar bypass, Sherpur bypass and the old GT Road and found 66 non-functional streetlight points.

The Commissioner checked the attendance of staff in the Zone B office near Shingar Cinema on Thursday morning. An Executive Engineer and a Health Officer, who were found absent, were given a warning. Thereafter, Mr Sharma went round various localities in Zone B to see the level of sanitation.
