One stabbed to death in Gujarat
Ahmedabad, May 26
One person was stabbed to death here last night, taking the toll in renewed violence since Friday night to three even as indefinite curfew in Godhra continued for the second day, the police said today. They said three persons assaulted and killed Lalit Kumar Mistry (39) with sharp-edged weapons on Kalupur bridge in curfew-bound area of the city. A case has been registered. PTI

7 shot in Colombo
Colombo, May 26
Unidentified attackers shot dead seven men in the Sri Lankan capital today, signalling an escalation of fighting between rival underworld gangs, the police said. The seven men were on their way to a local police station as required by a court order when gunmen travelling in a van shot them from close range, the police added. PTI

Mayawati suspends 4
Agra, May 26
UP Chief Minister Mayawati today suspended four officials, including the Deputy Director of Factories, for issuing a clearance certificate to the shoe factory where a major blaze claimed 41 lives on Friday. The Chief Minister also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 50,000 each to the next of the kin of the deceased and Rs 10,000 each to the injured. PTI
