IconMan is a small easy to use program to search all icons on your drives. It searchs for the normal ICO files but it will also look in dynamic link libraries and any other file that can contain icons, even screensavers. You only have to start the program and press the Search button. On the left of the window you see the files that might contain icons. Click on it and you will see on the right what icons are in the file, if any. Double-click an icon to save it as either icon (ICO) or bitmap (BMP). You might consider not to search on all drives for icons or not to search for all types of files that can contain them; if so you can go to the options window by pressing Options. The last feature in IconMan is the VIEW ALL. With this you can view all icons in the files you searched at once in one big window. Go to View/View all and press Search. You can save an icon at any time by double-clicking on it, or pressing right mouse button and select 'Save to file' from there or 'Save to clipboard' to save the image to the clipboard. You probably don't want to search all files again next time. Press File/ Save Session so as to save the list of files and all icons added with the VIEW ALL option. You can download it from www.chainware.com/bin/IconMan.zip MPNews Internet News Server MPNews is a simple, free Internet News Server that allows you to provide your own news groups on your computer. These newsgroups will be fully accessible by anyone who can connect to your computer - if you want to make your groups available to the Internet, you will need a permanent Internet connection. To install the program, simply unzip the mpnews.exe file to an installation directory and run it - no real installation is required. Select a port (leaving it on 119 is normally fine - this is the default for news servers) and press the Start button. To create groups, click on the Create or Delete Groups button, select Add... and enter the name of your group. You can also optionally add a description for each group. The box at the bottom of the program window shows a log of all activity on the server, including the address of the client accessing the server and the command they are running. To access your newsgroups locally for testing, create a news account in your newsreader, e.g. Outlook Express, and use the name "localhost" for the server name. You should be able to leave all other settings on their default values. In order for others to access your news groups, you will have to publicise the name or address of your computer - if you do not have a DNS name for your computer (most people don't on the Internet), you will have to use your IP address. To find this out, you can run the "winipcfg" utility under Windows 9x, or the "ipconfig" utility under Windows NT, 2000 and XP.
