Clashes in Berlin on Bush’s arrival
Berlin, May 23
More than 50 persons were arrested and 44 police officers injured in clashes after US President George W.Bush arrived in Berlin that marred a previously peaceful evening demonstration by thousands of anti-war activists, the police said today. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators burned American flags and youths pelted the police in riot gear with bottles and stones. AP

ADB assistance
New Delhi, May 23
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) today agreed to double its total assistance package to India to Rs 30,000 crore ($6 billion) for 2003-05, making the country the largest recipient of the Bank’s assistance. “Nearly 75 to 80 per cent of the assistance would go to meet India’s infrastructure needs,’’ Dr Sudipto Mundle, Chief Economist for India, said.
