Stir against tobacco
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, May 23
The Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle has launched an awareness campaign as a part of the ‘no-tobacco week’.

In a press note issued here today, Dr Ravi Bhushan, leader of the campaign, said students of various schools would stage a sit-in outside six unauthorised tobacco vends near their schools or markets tomorrow. The students would educate passersby on the ill-effects of tobacco consumption by showing them pictures of persons who have acquired various diseases due to it.

Mr Surjit Singh, zonal secretary of the circle, said volunteers and members of the NGOs would visit the schools to teach students how to generate awareness. He said the increasing consumption of ‘gutkha’ among schoolchildren was a matter of concern.

As part of the campaign, students have prepared placards with anti-tobacco slogans written on these.
