No let-up in heatwave

Chandigarh, May 20
Torrid heatwave conditions in Punjab and Haryana showed little sign of abating today as duststorms had little effect on the temperatures.

“The maximum temperatures at most places in the region will continue to hover around the 40°C mark. However, the possibility of duststorms or thunderstorms at isolated places in the region during the next 48 hours are likely to provide temporary relief from the heatwave” the Director of the Meteorological Department Mr S.C. Bhan, said.

Meanwhile, Chandigarh and surrounding areas had some relief from the hot conditions with the mercury dropping by a few degrees.

The heatwave has so far claimed 28 lives in Punjab and Haryana. PTI
