A grooming course for girls
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, May 12
A two-day personality grooming workshop for girl and women was organised at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women. The workshop ended today.

Ms Shelly Ahuja, who had organised the course said, ‘‘This has been done to build confidence, instill manners and etiquette and conversational skill. Besides this the students are taught relaxation techniques and given beauty tips. The basic aim of the course is to enable them to meet the challenges of life. Usually the girls lack grooming and confidence. With the life moving at a fast pace, only well groomed, confident persons can stand anywhere in the shrinking job market as well as marriage market.’’

The two days workshop had many activities. The first was asking a member to ask the names of seven participants. The participants then introduced themselves. This inculcated confidence. The students, through various role plays, enacted different situations. Like one girl was told all negative things about herself. The group was asked to think of responses to tackle such a situation. Finally the girl had to decide the way she would handle such situations in life.

Conversational skills were developed by asking them to chat with each other on daily activities. The students were taught etiquettes and taught how to acquire them. The latent talents were brought out through interaction.

Two participants, Sushmita and Kanchan said, ‘‘We were very shy. We just shrivelled before the strangers. But in the last two days our confidence has soared up considerably and we feel on top of the world.’’
