Artillery duel
Jammu, May 8
Indian and Pakistani forces are engaged in a fierce artillery battle at Digwar, Jhalas and Salotri areas on the LoC in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir since morning. Sources said Pakistani troops from the 10 Corps began firing 82 M mortar shells at around 10.30 a.m. targeting forward Indian bunkers and isolated watch-towers. The firing continued for 35 minutes. Indian soldiers fired similar calibre mortars and the exchange continued for about an hour.

Writ admitted
Aurangabad, May 8
The Mumbai High Court has admitted a petition challenging allotment of a petrol pump to the nephew of BJP Vice-President Gopinath Munde and also allowed to make him (Mr Munde) as well as Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan as respondents. The petitioner challenge the selection of Dhananjay Panditrao Munde as the petrol pump dealer at Shirur in Beed district alleging that the decision was based on political influence.
