Exactly modelled on the latest CAT pattern, the mock CAT was administered under strict test-like conditions to create a feel of the real test. Court order suppressing information flayed
Our Correspondent

Kharar, May 6
The Bar Association here has declared that the order passed by the Honourable Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, directing the police and the Judicial Magistrate not to give any information to the press was not supportable by any provision of law.

This resolution was passed unanimously at a meeting of the association held under the presidentship of Mr Anil Kaushik today.

This association also appreciated the steps taken by the Chief Minister of Punjab to root out corruption from the state.

According to the resolution, “Everyone is equal before the law and deserves equal protection under it as provided by Article 14 of the Indian Constitution, so judges at the highest level and executive officers of IAS and PCS cadre should claim no other protection from law any more than any other citizen of India”.

I have questioned as to why the names of High Court judges and IAS officers were being held back from the public and the press. Mr Ravinderpal Singh Sidhu’s status as an officer is not less than any other officer of the state. Therefore, the orders passed by the honourable Judge of the High Court were not legally supportable by any provisions of law.

They have resolved that this order has the effect of depriving the public from knowing the illegal acts of highly placed persons and the press has also been gagged. The same amounts to violation of the provisions of the Constitution regarding freedom of the press.

Meanwhile, the members of the Bar suspended their work in courts today in response to a call given by the Samrala and Moga Bar Association which has also expressed resentment against the attempt to conceal the corrupt elements from several quarters.

Dist Courts remain without power for 5 hrs
Our Correspondent

Chandigarh, May 6
The District Courts remained without electricity for about five hours as a fire broke in the main junction box in the ground floor of the lawyers’ chambers due to short circuit here today.

Sources said that in order to check kundi connection at the District Courts, officials of the UT Electricity Department had inspected the court premises last year and taken a serious note of a number of illegal connections and threatened to remove them soon.

Last year an organisation, the Lawyers for Social Reform (LSR), had sent a legal notice to the UT Home Secretary and Executive Engineer complaining about abrupt failure of electricity supply to lawyers chambers and courts.

The LSR had complained at that time that for the past two months the lawyers had been facing a lot of inconvenience due to frequent power failures. There was danger of some fire tragedy due to defective electricity wires and main switches in the junction boxes and many computers, electronic typewriters, ACs installed in the lawyers chambers.
