Gynaecology wing opened at Sohana hospital

A modern gynaecology and obstetrics centre was inaugurated by the Jathedar of Takht Sri Patna Sahib, Giani Iqbal Singh, at Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib (charitable) Eye Hospital, Sohana, near here today.

A specialised ophthalmology and dental centre is already being run at the hospital. The centre opened today offers ultrasound facilities counselling on family planning, photo therapy and infertility treatment. It is housed in a four-storied building. Two gynae OPD blocks, a minor operating theatre, a paediatrics OPD laboratory and a recovery room are located on the ground floor. The first floor houses five air-conditioned wards and the top floor has general wards and two main operating theatres.

Dr M.K. Brar, Dr S. Sud and Dr Rachna Deewan head the gynae wing. Dr Parveena Sodhi would be heading the paediatrics wing. The gynae wing has been provided with 30 beds. Mr Gurmeet Singh, secretary of the hospital, said the hospital would provide all facilities for women healthcare. Earlier, Bhai Inderjit Singh, “hazoori ragi” from Gurdwara Akal Ashram, Sohana, Bhai Tejinder Singh Shimlawale, Bhai Gurmej Singh, Bhai Jasbir Singh and Bhai Jasbir Singh Khanewale performed kirtan. Giani Iqbal Singh lauded the opening of the centre.

Anand wins snooker tie

Anand Chhiber outplayed Rajan Gulati 2-1 (30-65, 64-26, 51-50) on the third day of the 3rd Saurav Khattar memorial snooker championship played here at the Chandigarh Club. In other matches of the day, Harinder Singh got the better of Mahesh Choudhry 2-0 (54-42, 52-38), JS Kohali beat Atul Kapoor 2-0 (65-33, 55-46), Pranav Jain outclassed Naman Kumar 2-1 (66-49, 51-66, 59-32), Sandeep S. Chadha defeated Sarvesh 2-0 (79-20,71-11) while Vishal Gupta beat HS Chadha 2-1 (46-9, 31-59, 47-27). In the 3rd Shekhar Puri Memorial Billiards Championship played at the same venue, Ashwani Attri defeated Mahesh Chaudhary 152-89, while S.Chaudhary defeated Pankaj Gulati 151-130.

Cricket tourney

Haryana Power Sports Cricket club trounced Haryana Seeds Development Corporation by seven wickets in the First Udyog Cup organised by the HSIDC, Panchkula, played at JR Institute of Cricket Technology, Barwala. In another match, HSIDC prevailed upon Haryana Tourism by 106 runs.

Brief scores — (Ist match) HSDC Club: 103 runs all out (Mohit 30, Rakesh Vats 26, Harinder 2 for five, Varinder Chopra 2 for 11); HPSC club: 104 for three (Rajinder 61, Jagmohan Kapoor 27).

IInd match: HSIDC Club: 203 for five (Arun Sood 43, Raj Kumar 39 n.o., Dilbagh Dahiya 22); Haryana Tourism: 97 runs all out (Satbir 38, Neeraj Tyagi 4 for 30, Narender Sharma 3 for 14, Dilbagh Dahiya 2 for 27).

CFA to promote football in city

Chandigarh, May 5
The Chandigarh Football Association (CFA) has drawn out an ambitious plan to promote the game in the city. The association today held its annual general meeting at the DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, which was presided over by Mr Ravinder Talwar, president of the association. The association decided to host the Chandigarh sub-junior championship for Sanjay Trophy in August, followed by Chandigarh junior boys meet for DAV Trophy in September and Chandigarh senior men championship for Rajeshwar Bhardwaj Trophy in October. The CFA will also hold the Chandigarh women championship for Deepak Kampania Memorial Trophy in October followed by Chandigarh mini football championship for Shishu Niketen trophy for under-14 section in November.

The CFA also took the decision to register players by May 31 while by another decision, the players who take part in the sub-junior and junior meet will not be allowed to participate in the senior state meet. According to Mr Rakesh Bakshi, the ‘B’ and ‘C’ class referees examination will be held in June. The house also decided to allow Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited football team to take part in the senior state championship. The CFA will also hold coaching camps for 15 days.

Mr Talwar expressed his gratitude to the officials of All-India Football Federation for allotting under-21 national championship for North Zone National Football League to Chandigarh of the year 2001-2002.

Selection trials

The Chandigarh Chess Association will hold the under-8, under-10 and under-15 sections selection tournament for the national meet. Team of two will be selected from each category to represent the city. The championship will be held on May 11 at St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44. Interested children can contact Dr Vipnesh Bhardwaj, 61, Sector 11, Chandigarh (Phone 746078).

Cricket meet

Bedi Cricket Club trounced Pace XI by 33 runs in a ‘A’ division UT League Cricket Tournament played here today at the PEC cricket grounds today. In other matches, Chandigarh Sports Club beat DYFI XI by 66 runs; DAV Coaching Centre defeated Garhwal XI by five wickets and Kalsi XI defeated Phoenix CC by seven wickets.
