PU concessions for poor students
Chandigarh, March 31
Panjab University has initiated certain special concessions for wards of poor parents, including those belonging to the reserved categories. Prof K.N. Pathak, Vice-Chancellor, said “as a welfare measure for the students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, a provision of Rs one lakh had been made for the first time in the budget subsidy, grant and assistance to deserving students”.

3 killed as school bus falls into khud

Thundering noise, shattering of glass and a deadly silence. This is how survivors of an accident involving a bus of a local school remember the incident in which three persons died. The accident occurred at Thedpura village, 10 km from Barotiwala today.

Ishan Aggarwal of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, who scored 666 marks out of 700, topped the ClassVIII annual examinations conducted by the UT Education Department in the model category. Neha Khanna of Moti Ram Arya Senior Secondary School, Sector 27, bagged the first position in the non- model category by securing 615 marks out of 700 marks.

Parking: MC panel steps decried

An emergency meeting of the Anti-Paid Parking Joint Action Front held here today condemned the recommendations made by the Finance and Contract Committee of the Municipal Corporation regarding the functioning of paid parking system in the city.

Fake currency seized, two held
Chandigarh, March 31
The Operations Cell of Chandigarh Police has arrested two persons and seized around Rs 86,000 in fake currency from their possession. The two, arrested from Daruya village today, have been identified as Mohamad Hassan, a resident of the same village, and Javed, a resident of Saharanpur.

Revat Dhillon, who resides in the USA and has come especially for this event, today stole the limelight in the Servo Super Cross held at Circus Grounds, Sector 17. Dhillon’s superb performance on his RM-125 Suzuki mobike had the spectators, both in the pavilion and all along the track, on the edge of their seats. Enthusiasm was at its peak even as trails of dust cloud reduced the visibility.
