300 attend seminar on gardening Ludhiana, March 24 It was inaugurated by Mr Apinder Singh Grewal, Mayor, while Mr R.L. Kalsia, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, presided over the function. Mr Raminder Singh, Additional Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, shared various programmes of urban horticulture development in the city. The chairman of the Park Management Committee highlighted problems being faced by them in maintenance of parks. According to Dr J.S. Bilga, XEN, Horticulture and convener of the seminar, nearly 300 participants, comprising retired officers, park management committee office-bearers, officials of the Municipal Corporation, gardeners and garden lovers took part in the deliberations. An exhibition on garden tools, seeds and planting material was organised. A technical session was the main attraction of the programme wherein expert lecturers on important topics such as soil and fertilisers management for gardens, management of pests and diseases of garden plants and lawns, use of plant material for landscaping, propagation of ornamental plants, tips for growing roses for cut flowers and gardens techniques for proper display of plant material in garden competition and hints for selecting plant materials for urban landscaping was delivered by Dr G.S. Hira, Dr J.S. Dhiman, Dr S.P. Deosanjh, Dr H.S. Grewal, Dr M.S. Aulakh, Dr J.S. Arora and Dr Ramesh Kumar, respectively, from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. |
Shradhanjali samaroh Machhiwara, March 24 Various competitions were organised in the school which included declamation mehndi, rangoli, salad decoration, quiz, essay writing, slogan, collections (Leaf, vegetables, coins, flowers), patriotic songs and caption writing etc. The programme started with ‘Ae Mere Vatan Ke Logo’ by Gaganpreet Kaur. The students and teachers offered floral tributes to the martyrs. The manager of the school, Mr D.L. Jain, advised the students to feel the bond with the nation. Mr Kuldeep Batta, educationist, inspired the students to maintain peace and communal harmony. Mr J.P. Sachdeva, Editor-in-Chief, The Great India urged the students and teachers to be secular. Mrs Ravinder Kaur, lecturer, was the special guest of honour. Mrs Anita Jain, Principal of the school, thanked the guests. |
Workshop for teachers Ludhiana, March 24 Addressing the teachers, Mr Sarabjit Kwatra, resource person from Ways and Means Inc, said stress would be given on methods to equip the teachers with modern learning systems so as to meet the growing challenges and expectations of the fast changing society. He said the teachers should have the passion to shape, build, devote and serve so as to get heart to heart with the profession. He said various activities would be carried out during the workshop helping the teachers know modern teaching ways. Mr Satyanand Munjal, President of the school, said developing the right attitude was very important for the teachers. He said a teacher should be as sensitive as a poet, as careful as a painter and an architect of the nation builders. He said developing new techniques for learning was a must to change ourselves, fight with the competition to compete with the rest of the world. He released a book ‘Teacher by heart not by profession’. Ms Paramjit Kaur, Principal, said that the workshop would continue for two more days with focus on the right attitude to get the right results apart from focussing upon the creative learning techniques. In the fast changing scenario, one-time knowledge held no significance and constant revival of applied education had become the real need, she said. |
Malwa college convocation Ludhiana, March 24 Dr Kirpal Singh Aulakh, Vice Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, conferred the degrees upon 25 M.Ed and 250 B.Ed students of the college. The roll of honour for M.Ed was awarded to Ms Ekta Sharma and for B.Ed the roll of honour was presented to Ms Mandeep Kaur. Four other M.Ed and 22 B.Ed students received medals for academic excellence for securing merit positions. Seven M.Ed and 52 B.Ed students received academic prizes for the session 2000-01. More than 75 students got prizes for extra-curricular activities. Dr Ravinder Kaur, Principal, read the annual report. |

160 cases settled Khanna, March 24 The cases related banks and financial institutions were settled by the courts of Mr Ashok Kapoor, Sub-Judge, Ludhiana, Mr Munish Arora, Sub-Judge, Khanna, and Mr G.S. Dhillon , Senior Sub-Judge, Khanna. As many as 348 cases of financial disputes were presented in the courts and half of them were settled. Cases regarding family and matrimonial disputes were settled by the court of Mr Sanjay Agnihotri, Sub-Judge, Ludhiana. Mr Handa, who was supervising the adalats, took keen interest to solve cases. |
ADGP Gill honoured Ludhiana, March 24 Mr R S Gill has also served as the district police chief here in the nineties and has served as IG Zonal, Patiala and IG, IRB , before his promotion. A sports lover, Mr Gill played the pivotal role in making National Games 2001, a success. He has been president of Punjab Basketball Association for the past many years. Talking to reporters, Mr Gill said that he would strive hard to promote sports and culture in the state. He said sports and culture are inter-related and play an important role in the personality development of a human being. The Punjab Cultural Promotion Council’s Chairman, Mr Davinder Singh Chhina, lauded the services of Mr Gill for bringing sports to the centre stage of Punjab. “ Tremendous achievements by Punjab sportspersons are expected in the field of basketball and other disciplines under the command and guidance of Mr Gill,” said Mr Chhina. Prominent among those present on the occasion included the general secretary of the Punjab Basketball Association, Mr Teja Singh Dhaliwal, the council secretary, Prof Nirmal Jaura said Mr Gill’s personality is a source of inspiration for the entire police force and sports-culture lovers of the state. Senior vice-president Mr Daljeet Singh Jassal, Project Director Kanwaljeet Singh Shankar, Coordinator Mr Nalin Kaushik (Bunty), Jagdeep Singh , Mr Parminder Singh Nona (bhangra dancer ), Prof Rajinder Singh, Varinder Singh , Mr Yurinder Singh, Mr Surinder Singh Sodhi (Olympian). Mr Gill said, that ‘Sports-Clinics’ would be formed on the PAP complex so as to impart extensive and exclusive training to coaches. At the PAP emphasis would be laid on the overall personality development of a jawan. |
