Kapil opens golf clinic
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, February 19
It was an altogether different ball game, not an unfamiliar one though, for former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev as he swung the ball deep into the greens to open the six-day NIKE-CGR Golf Clinic for school kids in the age group of 11 to 17 years at the Vasant Valley School ground in the Capital. The golf clinic offers an excellent opportunity to young hopefuls to learn the basics of the game from a USPGA-certified A class professional golfer, John D. Volz. “It is heartening to see exclusive sports like golf being given broader access. Efforts such as the Nike-CGR Golf Clinic will help grow the appeal of the game, allowing kids not only to dream big, but also try their best to make it happen”, observed Kapil Dev, as he set the ball rolling.

The clinic is an ongoing initiative that hopes to make available the expertise of its team of professionals as well as its training facilities to school children at marginal fee structures.

Sarpanch gets stay order on suspension from HC
Our Correspondent

Jhajjar, February 19
The district police have cancelled a case of rape charges on Ranbir Singh, sarpanch of Dulhera village, following the inquiries in this regard, while the Deputy Commissioner issued orders of his suspension taking cognisance of the rape charges levelled against the sarpanch. The sarpanch, however, claimed to have got a stay order against his suspension from the Panjab and Haryana High Court, yesterday.

A woman of the same village had lodged a written complaint with the district police on January 27, accusing the sarpanch and his elder brother of raping her when she went to their shop situated in the village following which the police registered a case under section 376,342 and 34 of IPC against both the accused.

However, after the medical examination of the woman and further investigations into the case, which suggested the case as fabricated, the case against the sarpanch and his brother were cancelled. In the meantime, Mr Ashok Khemka, the DC, decided to suspend the sarpanch, using his powers under article 51 (1)-A of the Panchayati Raj act 1994.

But the sarpanch claimed to have got the stay orders issued on his suspension from the High Court.
