Gurgaon, February 18
The Chhotu Ram Educational and Cultural Society here has decided to set up a coaching centre for the prospective examinees for civil and defence service exams in the “Sir Chhotu Ram Bhawan”.

According to one of the founding members of the society, Mr Khazan Singh, the coaching centre will guide the candidates appearing in the exams for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Police Service (IPS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and the streams relating to the Haryana Public Service Commission.

The society would also offer courses relating to computer studies. The courses and computer programmes will be affiliated to the Maharashi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak. In the proposed educational package, the preference will be for women.

The society has already roped in its members, who have retired from high posts in different walks of life, as “think-tank” to fine-tune the programmes. The experts include a former Chief Justice of a High Court, D S Tewatia and Major-General, Mr Samai Ram.

The society was formed in the early nineties to propagate the views of “Sir” Chhotu Ram, the legendary figure from Haryana, who championed the cause of the peasantry and the labour class during the time of British period. Sir Chhotu Ram, who passed away in 1945, is revered by the farming community in Haryana and is endearingly called as ‘Deen Bandhu’ (friend of the downtrodden).
