Indignant health staff hold dharna again

Ludhiana, February 15
Members of the Punjab Health Department Subordinate Offices Clerical Association sat on a dharna for the second day in front of the Civil Surgeon’s office here today in protest against the transfer of the association president to Patiala on the instructions of the Election Commission. The transfer was done by the Director, Health Services, Punjab.

According to an inquiry conducted by the commission, despite being a government employee, Sukhwinder Singh was found canvassing for the SAD candidate from Ludhiana Rural, Mr Amrik Singh Aliwal. However, Sukhwinder Singh has denied the allegation.

Meanwhile, the protesting members threatened to continue the dharna till the transfer orders were taken back.

Punjab judo meet from Feb 16

Ludhiana, February 15
The Ludhiana District Judo Association under the aegis of the Punjab Judo Association (PJA) will organise Punjab State Judo Championship for junior boys and girls here at the Indoor Stadium of Guru Nanak Sports Complex on February 16 and 17, according to a press note issued by Mr O.S. Nagi, Joint Secretary, PJA.

Players from all affiliated units of PJA have been asked to report to Mr Rakesh Singh, SAI judo coach, at the venue on February 16 at 9 am. Performance during this meet will be taken into consideration while selecting the state teams for the forthcoming National Junior Judo Championship scheduled to be held at Indore from February 24 to 28.

Trials to select the senior team to participate in the National Judo Championship slated to be conducted at Mumbai from March 2 to 5 will also be held at this venue on February 17. The selection committee will consist of Dev Singh Dhaliwal, A.S. Grewal, Abjinder Singh and Rakesh Singh, the note said.

National kabaddi meet

The third Alankar Tony Memorial National Kabaddi Cup Tournament organised by Alankar Memorial International Kabaddi Trust will be held from February 21 to 23 at Mangat Waryam Stadium of Kube village, about 25 km from here.

Giving this information, Mr Surjan Singh Chatha and Mr Gurmel Singh Pehlwan, chief organiser and chairman of the trust, stated that in this three-day meet competition in 57 kg, 52 kg, 47 kg, 32 kg categories will be held. Teams from Canada, Sher-e-Punjab Club, California, International Club of Moga, Haruana, Harjit Club and Alankar Tony Club of Kube will take part in the competition. Mr Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Union Minister and the president of the Punjab Olympic Association, will distribute prizes to the winners.
