Our Correspondent

Chandigarh, February 9
Foot-tapping music, stalls and several exciting competitions marked the second day of the annual fete of Government Home Science College here today.

Youngsters dressed in designer outfit could be seen thronging the college campus right from 11 am.

In all 42 stalls were put up. Most of the stalls were put up by outsiders. These included stalls of eatables and artefacts created by college students. There were stalls also for on-the-spot competitions — mehndi application, face painting, and tattooing.

The most sought after stall, however, was the request stall. The students managing it had a tough time addressing the requests. The dance floor was open throughout the day.

Later, Mr G.K. Marwah, Chairman, Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) gave away prizes to the winners of the competitions in rangoli, flower arrangement, geet, group dance, held yesterday.

There will be a musical programme by Safri Boys tomorrow, said Ms Nirupa, student — coordinator of the college.

Our Correspondent

Chandigarh, February 9
The UT District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission and Fora will operate from its new office in Sector 19-B here from February 18. Presently, the courts are in a Sector 17 building.

The new building will be inaugurated by a senior functionary of the Chandigarh Administration. The Administration has spent about Rs 2.9 crore on the construction of the three-floor new building that has public health and electric installations and covers about 4,323 sq ft.

Sources said the Administration had decided to build the building on May 1998 in view of the problems that litigants and lawyers faced in the comparatively less spacious single-floor building in Sector 17. The old building has only three courtrooms and inadequate accommodation for employees. The court records are stacked in a small room.

Fire safety is another aspect of the new building that will have spacious courtrooms, chambers, canteen, parking lots, air-conditioned room and library. It will also have separate rooms for various departments, besides six courtrooms. There are also 18 AC chambers for judges.

It also has separate rooms for the Registrar, the District Attorney and the Assistant District Attorney. For litigants and officials, there will be space for a canteen as well, besides a Bar room and library for lawyers.
