This Babydoll wants Seulement
Vous (Only you)
The
real name of Alisha Chinai is Sujata. She changed her name so that the
name would look impressive in the arena she had chosen as her
profession. Today, Alisha Chinai is the undisputed Queen of Indipop.
She entered the Indian music scene at a time when Indipop was an
unknown concept. Alisha's debut was in Alyque Padamsee's play Evita in
which she did a cameo and sang 'Another Suitcase in Another Hall' in
the early part of the mid '80's. Her first album was Jadoo at the time
when not much was happening in pop world. Her next two albums 'Aah!…
Alisha' and 'Babydoll' were bigger hits. After this she started
playback singing, in which she made her debut with 'Tarzan O My
Tarzan' under Bappi Lahiri in Tarzan (1985). Alisha also did English
and Hindi cover versions of Madonna and they surprisingly outsold the
Madonna catalogue in India. She then did an English album called 'Kama
Sutra'. In 1993, her first album with Magnasound, 'Bombay Girl' won
the Triple Platinum Disc award. And then came her biggest success
'Made In India', which sold over 30 lakh units and maintained its
hegemony on number1 on the charts for over a year. Recently her song
for the film 'Pyar tune kya kiya' was a major success. Alisha is back
with her latest 10-track album 'Alisha', which is on the top charts in
Indipop category on all music channels. 'Seulement Vous' is the songs
whose video is popular on all music channels.
