Nardev bags gold in rowing meet

Chandigarh, January 5
Nardev Singh bagged gold medal in the single scull section of the Chandigarh State Rowing Championship held today at Sukhna Lake. In the double scull section, Praveen Kumar and Jaspal Singh, secured first position while Dalip Singh and Tejinder got first place in coxless pairs section.

In girls double scull section, Saroj Bala and Kirandeep Kaur (senior), clinched first place. Tomorrow, the races will start at 2.30 pm.

Results: (boys) — single scull: Nardev Singh 1, Jaspal Singh 2, Hari Narain 3; double scull: Praveen Kumar and Jaspal Singh 1, Dalel Khan and Roop Chand 2, Amarjit and Hari Narain 3; coxless pair: Dalip Singh and Tajinder Singh 1, Himmat Singh and Sandeep Singh 2, Surjit Kumar and Nirmal Singh 3; and (girls) — double scull: Saroj Bala and Kirandeep Kaur (sr) 1. Meera and Manjula 2.

Yoga championship

The MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, and the Dev Samaj College for Education, Sector 36, bagged the Panjab University Inter-college Yoga ‘A’ division and ‘B’ division (women) Championship by securing 772 points and 672 points, respectively. The Government College for Girls, Sector 11, got second place, while the Government College for Girls, Sector 42 and Panjab University campus bagged third and fourth place respectively.

In the individual section, in ‘A’ division, Shivani of PEC was first, Poonam of MCM DAV-36 second, while Jyoti of GCG-11 at third place. In ‘B’ division, Anupama of the Government College of Education was declared all-round best, Rajni at second place while Shakuntala was adjudged at third place.

Elected

Mr Vivek Attray, IAS, has been elected as president of the Chandigarh Amateur Throwball Association at its meeting held today. Mr R.K. Sharma has been made the secretary. Later Attray said 11th National sub-junior throwball championship for boys and girls will be held from March 23 to 25 at Chandigarh. The UT junior team will be selected on January 8 after trials at the Government College of Art, Sector 10, when it would take part in the 11th Junior National Throwball Meet going to be held at Bangalore from January 18 to 20.

Mr Attray said soon they would have coaching clinics and training camps for the children and the Throwball Federation of India would be requested to help in the same. Last month, throwball has been given recognition by the Indian Olympic Association.

Rate fixed

Chandigarh, January 5
The Chandigarh Administration yesterday fixed the maximum rate of fare for stage carriages. Directions have been issued to the State Transport Authority, Chandigarh Administration, to charge Rs 20 per day for each holiday pass. For a student pass (point to point), Rs 60 per month will be charged, whereas Rs 85 per month will be charged for an employee pass (point to point), UT Secretariat. Similarly, Rs 320 per month will be levied for issuing a general pass (unlimited).
