Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, January 2
Shahdara and Delhi Police scored narrow victories to earn full points in the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL Senior Division League at the Ambedkar Stadium in the Capital on Wednesday.

Shahdara recorded a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Youngsters in Group B while Delhi Police edged past former League champions Moonlight 1-0 in Group A.

Shahdara took the lead in the 23rd minute through former international Bhupinder Thakur, who put the ball past custodian Joydeep Dey with a solo effort. Youngsters equalised in the 55th minute when S S Negi blasted home a cross from the left by Prem Lal. Neeraj Chaudhry booted home the match winner for Shahdara in the closing minutes.

Delhi Police fought hard to surprise the fancied Moonlight when they netted the all-important goal through V Samson immediately after Mehtab Ali muffed a spot kick for Moonlight. The penalty kick was awarded to Moonlight when Delhi Police’s substitute defender Sanjeev Kumar intentionally committed an infringement inside the box.
