The Olympian Surjit Sports and Cultural Foundation, Punjab, will organise annual rural sports at Kotlasaian village (Batala) from October 28 to October 30, according to foundation chairman, Mr Devinder Singh Kala, and Mr Surjit Singh Sodhi, chief organiser. They said seven
state-level awards would be given this year to outstanding sportspersons and sports promoters. International hockey star, Dhanraj Pillay, and captain of the Indian junior hockey team, Gagan Ajit Singh, would be felicitated with the Surjit Singh Randhawa award. Meanwhile, a four- member committee, comprising Principal Sarwan Singh Dhudike, Prof Gurbhajan Singh Gill, Prof Surinder Singh Kahlon and Mr Nishan Singh Randhawa, had been constituted which would decide about other awards to be given by the foundation. PostponedThe Champions College Hockey League, involving the teams of four universities of the state and to be organised by the Punjab Hockey Promotion Association scheduled to start from September 28 at Ludhiana and Jalandhar simultaneously has been postponed due to some unavoidable circumstances, according to Mr Jagroop Singh Jarkhar, a spokesperson of the
association. The league will now begin on October 5. Sixteen teams will take part in this month-long league. MeetingA meeting of the Punjab Rural Sports Council will be held on September 29 here at the Guru Nanak Stadium, according to Mr Prithipal Singh Batala, president of the council. Office-bearers of various rural sports clubs will attend this meeting in which sports schedule of these clubs and some other matters will be discussed. A decision about the
preparations of holding a function to felicitate various sports personality with the Amarjit Grewal Rashtriya Khed Rattan Award will also be taken during this meeting.
