Ways to beat bad breath

BAD breath problem affects all age groups. Bacteria in the mouth or oral flora and their evil products are behind the bad breath. As bacteria breakdown food, foul smelling sulfur compounds emanate.

During the day, saliva provides natural hygiene. As you talk and chew, your tongue moves around in the mouth and promotes saliva flow. This way mouth is continuously rinsed and cleaned. During sleep, this process stops. Talking, eating, drinking and chewing get juices flowing against the fumes dissipate.

Certain activities such as vigorous exercise, smoking, talking certain medications and consuming alcohol dry the mouth. Sugarless gum or sugarless mints may help keep the mouth from drying out. Some foods legitimately cause bad breath. We all know about garlic and onions. Brushing you teeth is not going to help because the odour comes from the lungs and not from residue in your mouth. Garlic and onions cause bad breath because they contain sulfur compounds which enter the blood stream. When blood reaches the lungs, so do the vapours, which you exhale. Cabbage, coffee, alcohol, curry and even pineapple contain substances that are released in the lungs and can produce distinctive breath odour. Bad breath can also be a sign of a more serious disorder. Sinusitis, tuberculosis, syphilis, eirrohsis of the liver., diabetes, hypoglycemia, renal disease and vitamin and chemical deficient can all produce a foul order. If you are concerned about your breath odour, consult you dentist. Bad breath may be a sign of indigestion or upper respiratory infection.

Some tips

* Brush your teeth thoroughly but gently. Brush at least twice a day for three to five minutes each time and Clean every surface of every tooth.

* Brush your tongue, sounds silly, but bacteria collect on top of it and raise a stink.

* Avoid injury to the inside of your mouth.

* Do gargle with a mouth wash or salted water.

* Brush immediately after meal.

* Rinse the mouth when you cannot brush.

* Eat regularly and do not skip meals. An empty stomach can send up foul odours.

* Cloves and cardamom can cover bad breath with a pleasant fragrance.

* Chew a mint or some other gums also good for a temporary cover up.
