Indo-UK roller hockey tie on Aug 12 Chandigarh, August 10 Football tournament St Stephen’s School, Sector 45 and Yadavindra Public School, SAS Nagar, surged ahead in the football events of the Fanta Fiesta organised by Kandhari Beverages began here today at Football Stadium, Sector 10. Earlier the event got off to a flying start with large participation of
enthusiastic children. The various results are: Sanjay Public Sr Sec School-44 b St John’s High School 12-1- scorers-Chetan Thakur with five goals. SD Public school, Sector 32 b St Soldier’s-28 4-0 (Gopal 2 goals); St Stepehn’s-45 b St Xavier’s-44 3-2 (Wankessan 2 goals); YPS SAS Nagar b GHMS-16 3-0 (Sukhdeep Sandhu 2 goals). Badminton meet The inter-schools badminton meet organised by the District Badminton Association, Panchkula, began here today at sector 7 Community Centre with Hansraj Public School, Sector 6 Panchkula winning their five first round matches out of the seven held today. In boys under19, under14, girls under 10 and girls under 19, HPS players won with ease. In boys under 14 and girls under 14, Little Flower School, Sector 14, Panchkula, also won their respective matches while DC Model SS School, Sector 7, won its matches in under 14 section. The results are: girls under 10: HPS b Sacred Heart School-26, Chandigarh 2-1; under 14:LFS-14 Panchkula b St Xavier’s School-Panchkula 2-0; under 19: HPS, P b Gyan Jyoti School, SAS Nagar 2-0. Boys: under 14:HPS b MRASS-27 2-0; LFS, Panchkula b Shishu Niketan 2-0. DCM SS b St Xavier’s 2-0. Under 19 : HPS b Shishu Niketan 2-0. Carrom championship As many as 128 players, including 28 women players, will vie for top honours in the Panchkula District Carrom championship which will begin tomorrow at Saupin’s School, Sector 9, Panchkula. The two day meet will be organised by Panchkula District Carrom Association. Vollyball team selected Markfed has selected a 16-member volleyball team after a rigorous selection camp held at Sector 7. The players are; Bhag Singh-Captain, Ashok Kumar, Bahal Singh, Paramjit Singh, Prabhdeep Singh, Gurinderjit Singh, Anil Kumar, Devinder Singh, Shyam Lal, Parminder Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Lila Ram, G.S. Minhas, Balam Singh, Gurmit Singh and Banarsi Dass. This was stated by Mr Rajinder Bansal Sports officer, Markfed. Five-a-side football meet The Bangiya Sanskriti Sammilani will hold a five-a-side football tournament beginning tomorrow at Banga Bhawan, Sector 35. This five-day event will have 18 teams from different parts of the city. |
CM opens 2 community
centres, dispensary Panchkula, August 10 This was stated by Mr Om Prakash Chautala, Haryana Chief Minister, while addressing media persons after inaugurating two community centres and a civil dispensary in the township here today. The CM commented that the country used to import a huge quantity of foodgrains from other countries but now the Indian farmer has become self-dependent. He revealed that at present 615 lakh metric tonnes of foodgrains have been stored in godowns. He claimed that 7.15 lakh metric tonnes had been damaged due to shortage of sufficient godowns in Haryana alone. Mr Chautala said that the present government will complete its tenure. The rally organised by the Haryana Congress at Nuh was a flop show, he said. To provide better health services to the people of the region, a new hospital with ultra-modern facilities would be set up in Panchkula with the aid of the Central Government, disclosed Mr Chautala. Earlier, he inaugurated a community centre which came up at the cost of Rs 29 lakh in Sector 21, and another one in Sector 11 at the cost of the Rs 24 lakh. A civil dispensary in Sector 10 was also inaugurated. Apart from local residents, Mr Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, Agriculture Minister, Mr Pradeep Chaudhary, General Secretary of INLD, Mr Bhaskar Chatterjee, Commissioner, Town and Country Planning, Mrs Jyoti Arora, Deputy Commissioner and senior officials were also present on the occasion. |
DPC meeting to select CE on Aug 21 Chandigarh, August 10 The meeting will be held in Chandigarh with the UPSC sending its nominee. From the Chandigarh Administration, the Home Secretary and the Finance Secretary will participate. The issue of holding a DPC to select a Chief Engineer has been hanging fire since October last year. On March 31, when Mr
R.K. Jain retired as Chief Engineer, Mr Puranjit Singh was handed over charge on a current duty charge basis. The DPC has been postponed at least five times in the past 10 months. |

The officers have been instructed to intensify patrolling, especially at the sensitive installations. The Operation Cell, CID, and the Crime Branch have been asked to keep a watch on suspicious elements. |
