CBSE to restructure question papers
Our Correspondent

Chandigarh, July 29
The Central Board of Secondary Education has decided to restructure the question papers of Class X mathematics and Class XII economics and biology. The restructured question papers would be introduced from the examinations to be held in March, 2002.

The salient features of the restructuring will consist of reducing the number of questions to be attempted by the candidates. Students would be given provision of internal choice for certain questions in each paper.

This procedure is to relieve the candidates from stress during the conduct of examinations. After analysing the feedback, the board will examine the feasibility of extending these provisions to other subjects in due course of time.

In addition to above, minor modifications have been carried out in the blueprint and the structure of the question paper of history of Class XII. The board has also brought out a sample question paper in the subject of introductory information technology for Class X.

The board will be circulating one printed copy of the revised question papers free of cost to all the affiliated schools shortly. These question papers would also be put up in the CBSE websites from where the schools can download the same.

The printed copies would be available on sale for the students from the third week of August . They can get the question papers from the publication stores of the CBSE, Delhi, and its regional offices.

Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, July 29
Bhupinder Singh from SAS Nagar and Kajal Panju from Amritsar bagged the top positions in the men and women categories, respectively, at the singing contest organised by the Yaadgar-e-Rafi Society at Tagore Theatre this evening.

 Kajal Panju      Bhupinder Singh

The annual event of the society witnessed 200 participants from the entire region in the preliminary contest. As many as 60 fought it out in the semi-finals while 19 out of the selected 20 turned up for the finals staged today.

Prof Sampat Singh, a minister from Haryana, was the chief guest on the occasion. He said such an event was necessary in maintaining a link with the national heritage which seemed to be loosing its way in the garb of modernism. Veena Sehgal from Ludhiana and Ramesh Kumar from Ambala were first runners-up in their respective categories. The third place was bagged by Rekha Arora from Panchkula in the women category while Manmohan Singh from Yamunanagar was adjudged third in the men category.

The evergreen Rafi number “Baahosho hawaas main deewana” from the film Night in London showed an impressive control over the flow of voice by Bhupinder Singh much to the delight of the audience. “Ab kya misaal doon” by Ramesh Kumar was also impressive.

“Mere dil ne jo maanga”, an original composition written by Indeevar and set to music by Kalyan ji Anand ji, was brought out in impressive style by Kajal.

One important highlight of the show was the orchestra providing the background music for the show. The details of notes and a beautiful play of the hands on the musical instruments deserves a special word.

The jury for the show comprised Prof Arvind Sharma, Panjab University, Prof Jitender, Government College for Girls, and Mr B.M.Kalia, president of the organising society.

“Dil kare ruk ja” by Sanjeev Kumar, “Kahe jhoom jhoom raat yeh suhani” by Ravjot Kaur, “Jab dil se dil takrata hai” by Tarsem Khullar and “Ab to hai tujhse” by Manju Arora also deserve a special mention.
