TOURISTS DROWNED AT FALLS
Dehra Dun, July 28
Two tourists from Haryana drowned yesterday in the rain-fed mountain streams of the Dehra Dun valley, an official said today. They were swept away by strong currents at the famous Sahastradhara Falls. Their bodies had been found and sent for a postmortem, District Magistrate Om Prakash said. The two were part of a group of 72 persons from Sonepat. UNI

5 PRISONERS HURT
Varanasi, July 28
Five inmates were injured at the district jail in a clash with prison officials over the death of a fellow prisoner. According to sources, jail guards allegedly beat Mahandra Giri to death yesterday. The police said three guards were suspended and a case was registered under Section 304 of the IPC. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered. UNI

PRESIDENT DISCHARGED
New Delhi, July 28
President K.R. Narayanan, who was admitted to Army Research and Referral Hospital here on Wednesday following a viral infection, was today discharged from the hospital. Mr Narayanan returned to Rashtrapti Bhavan in the afternoon, an official press note said. PTI

15 MAOISTS FREED
Kathmandu, July 28
Nepal has released 15 Maoist rebels as a goodwill gesture ahead of talks between the government and the insurgents, Home Ministry officials announced today. The release of the rebels came almost a week after Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and a Maoist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal called a truce. AFPTop
