Awareness rally

Ludhiana, June 28
Dr Rajinder Kaur, Civil Surgeon, flagged off a public awareness rally at the Civil Surgeon’s office here today. June is celebrated as anti-malaria month by the Health Department.

The rally was led by Mr R.C.Garg, District Health Officer, and Dr Ajit Singh Chawla. The rally passed from areas like Old Courts, Fountain Chowk, Old Dayanand Hospital and reached the Civil Surgeon’s office.

The department also organised a family welfare camp at B.L.Kapoor Hospital. Over 50 vasectomy and tubectomy operations were conducted on the occasion.

Gagan, Sukhman skippers for national meet

Ludhiana, June 28
Gagan Matta of Ferozepore and Sukhman Ghuman of Ropar have been selected to lead the Punjab boys’ and girls’ teams, respectively, at the 18th Sub-Junior National Aquatics Championship that is to be held at Madgaon (Goa) from July 1 to 4, according to Mr Balraj Sharma, General Secretary, of the Punjab Swimming Association.

The other members of the teams that were selected at coaching camps in Jalandhar and Ludhiana are as follows: Boys (under-12) — Preet Apinder Singh Grewal, Vibhor Mundepi, Amit Singh, Azad Singh, Amandeep Sharma, Pankaj Sikka, Varun Sharma and Sandeep Dhir; boys (under-10) — Nikhil, Sunil, Harman Singh, Dilshar Khanna; girls (under-12) — Riti Parmar, Gurbinder Kaur, Lajdeep and Poonam; girls (under-10) — Prabhjot, Komal Avtar, Era Kalia and Amanjot Sandhu.

Mr N.M. Datta and Mr Sunil Kumar will accompany the teams as officials.

Soccer trials on July 2

Ludhiana, June 28
Trials to select the Punjab women’s football probables for the National Games, that are to be held in Punjab from September 16 to 29, will be conducted on the football ground of G.H.G. Khalsa College, of Gurusar Sudhar in the Ludhiana district on July 2 at 10 a m, according to Mr Surinder Bhamri, honorary Secretary, of the Punjab Women’s Football Association.

The association will select 30 probables for the coaching camps that are to be organised in association with the Punjab Olympics Association and the Punjab Sports Department. The probabler will attend four coaching camps in July, August and September before the National Games.

Ambedkar Bhavan stone laid

Mandi Gobindgarh, June 28
The foundation stone of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bhavan costing Rs 27 lakh was laid yesterday by Mr Parkash Singh, a local councillor.

Mr Dharam Pal, acting president of the Municipal Council, also announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh for Ramdasia Dharamshala. Mr Lachhman Singh Saini, Executive Officer, said after the completion of Dr B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan, a long-standing demand of the people would be met.
