‘Ludhianvis have taste for art’ Ludhiana, June 11 They have not only shown their interest but have appreciated the creative work”, said Neenu Vij, who has put up an exhibition of her paintings for two days at Lakshmi Ladies club. The exhibition displays over 40 impressive paintings by Neenu Vij and Sangeeta Birla from Kolkotta. “The art is like a mirror for society which reflects what the artist perceives. It can be day-to-day activity or nature’s beauty or the glimpse of one’s own self.” said Sudha Khosla, one of the visitors to the exhibition. Sangeeta Birla said the exhibition was the result of two year’s hardwork. “We have been organising such exhibitions at Chandigarh, Amritsar and Delhi, but it is our first experience in Ludhiana. We were scared, but the response and appreciation by the Ludhianvis has really encouraged us,” Sangeeta said. The magnificent landscapes, vibrant flowers, blend of bright and dull colours and mystic folk characters when combined with human psyche, created their own world in the work of art. Neeny Vij said: “The modes of expression can be different and the medium can vary but the responsibility to give art a purpose and meaning, always remains with the artist”. The artist duo deliberately tried to present various kinds of styles, techniques and textures and combined themselves with the varied interest of the commoners. The “shades and strokes” in their paintings not only project the art works in the literal sense but also familiarised with different shades and strokes of life. The paintings include “The Saint Within”, “Chaos”, “Personal Ride”, “Marigold”, “Hope”, “Banjaran”, “Bazaar”, “Radha”, “Sawan”, “Recarnation”, “Whirlpool”, “Morning Glory”, “Entertainer”, “World Within” and “Autumn”. |
