Govt striving to improve standard of education: Gosain

In order to bring about qualitative improvement in the education system in the state, concrete steps had been taken during the last four years. Apart from introducing a large number of vocational subjects, the computer and latest IT-based training courses were also started in all the schools in co-ordination with the international level IT training companies, said Mr Sat Pal Gosian, Deputy Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha, while addressing a function at Government Multipurpose Senior Secondary School after inaugurating a submersible pump donated by the Punjab Beopar Mandal for the school children here today.
The Deputy Speaker also laid the foundation stone of a court yard in the school and handed over three water coolers to the Principal, also donated by the Punjab Beopar Mandal.
Mr Gosain said the state government had accorded priority to provide quality education and during current financial year, an amount of Rs 259.14 crore had been earmarked for the improvement of education, against Rs 154.55 crore during the last year. He disclosed that to further improve the technical education, the government had released Rs 39.60 crore for the induction of latest training equipment and creation of required infrastructure in the Industrial Training Institutes (ITI’s).
Expressing his serious concern over the badly damaged education system by the previous Congress governments during last 50 years, Mr Gosain said when the present government had taken over in the state, the posts of teachers were lying vacant in thousands and claimed that during the last four years 80 per cent of the vacant posts had been filled and the process for the remaining was under way. He further said during this year, 1404 more government schools had been upgraded, computer education was started in 500 schools and 42 colleges and number of schools under this scheme were being increased to 700 by end of this year.
Mr Gosain informed that government had also planned to provide infrastructure facilities and furniture to schools and during this year Rs 40 crore were being spent for this purpose.
Mr Gosain said the state government was also paying maximum attention to the fast development of the urban areas and had earmarked Rs 400 crore for laying sewerage and water supply system in the
cities. He called upon the teachers to strive hard to provide good education to the students and inculcate moral and human values among them. He also announced a grant of Rs 3 lakhs for the improvement of the school building.
