GMCH to have close circuit TVs

Chandigarh , May 28
In order to monitor the working of doctors, nurses and other paramedical personnel in the GMCH emergency, the hospital administration is planning to instal 12 close circuit televisions (CCTVs).

According to the GMCH Medical Superintendent, Prof Raj Bahadur, the total cost of the project is about Rs 50,000.

After scrutinizing the tenders, CCTVs will most likely be installed by the end of this week.

The project has been approved by the GMCH Director Principal, Prof S.B.S. Mann, to improve the efficiency of the hospital.

CCTVs will be linked directly with the MS office. Five CCTVs each will be put up in the medical and surgical emergencies and two in the reception area.

“The MS office will be in direct contact with the attendants of the patients and ensure that they are not facing any problem at their end, besides taking care of any miscreant activity,” added Prof Raj Bahadur.

The GMCH has recently installed a new light signboard costing Rs 58,000 for better projection of the hospital.

Nadia bags four gold medals

Nadia Saini of DAV Public School, Sector 8, created history when this 12-year-old girl today won the women singles title in the first Ajit Karam Singh Memorial Open Table Tennis Tournament which concluded here today at the Sector 23 TT hall. In all she won four titles in the tournament. Nadia downed Rishu of Jalandhar in four games by 21-15, 21-18, 14-21 and 21-15, today.

In men singles final, it was Dheeraj Arora of the RBI, Chandigarh, who defeated Sunil Bamboo also of Chandigarh, 21-17, 23-21, 23-25, 18-21, 22-20. In the last game, Dheeraj was down at 17-20, from where he came back to win the game and the match.

In junior boys section, Y. Dinesh Singh of DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, defeated Rohit Mahajan, 21-15, 21-17 and 21-9. Mr N. S. Kalsi, Director Technical Education, Punjab, gave away the cash prizes to the winners.

Chess tourney

Abhinandan Vohra emerged winner in the 13th Chandigarh Chess Tournament which concluded here this evening at the Sector 42 sports complex.

The tournament was organised by the Chandigarh Chess Association to select the UT team for taking part in the National ‘B’ Chess Championship to be held at Nagpur from June 30. The team is: Abhinandan Vohra, Sanjeev Biswas, Anil Raina and Ashwani Kumar. Kanwar Sandeep Singh and Vipnesh Bhardwaj are the two reserves.

The final point position at the end of the sixth and final round is: Abhinandan Vohra (5.5 pts) 1, Sanjeev Biswas (4.5 pts) 2, Anil Raina (4.5 pts) 3, Ashwani Kumar (4.5 pts) 4, Kanwar Sandeep Singh (4.5 pts) 5, Vipnesh Bhardwaj (4.5 pts) 6, Nitin (4 pts) 7, Pritpal Singh (4 pts) 8, Ashok Atwal (4 pts) 9 and Baijnath (4 pts) 10.

Summer cricket

Mohali won the match by 235 runs against Mansa on the basis of their first innings lead in the PCA Pre-Season Summer Cricket Tournament for the FC Mittal trophy played here today at SAS Nagar.

Today the matches started late due to inclement weather. In a match of the under-16 section, played between Ludhiana and Mohali, the match was washed away due to rain so on the basis of toss, Ludhiana were adjudged winners.

Encroachments removed in Mauli Jagran

In a major anti encroachment drive, the Roads division and enforcement staff of the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, today removed nearly 600 to 700 encroachments of various kinds such as platforms, concrete slabs, staircases, additional structures in the form of pucca rooms and toilets from the road berms in Vikas Nagar, pocket No: 4, Mauli Jagran. The area falls in the ward of the Mayor, Mr Raj Kumar Goyal.

The drive was conducted under the supervision of XEN ( Roads), Mr Mukesh Anand, amidst heavy police deployment. The encroachments were removed from across the main road and all other internal roads of the colony even as the people of the area were resentful of the same. The drive was carried out prior to starting of carpeting work on these roads.

The drive, which began at 9.30 a.m. continued for nine hours without report of any untoward incident. The officials maintain that 60 per cent of encroachments have been removed and the remaining will be removed in the next few days depending on the availability of the police force. Three trucks and about 60 labourers took part in the operation. The DSP, Mr Surjit Singh, and the SDO, Mr Ashok Sharma, were present at the site during the operation along with 70 odd police personnel.

Cops’ recruitment

Panchkula, May 28
The Haryana armed police will conduct the recruitment test for male and female constables at all district headquarters on June 3.

Mr Manoj Yadav, SP, said 1600 male and 85 female constables would be recruited. Twenty constables would be recruited in Panchkula. To test the physical fitness of the candidates, a camp would be organised at Parade Ground in Sector 5 on June 3.

The SP said that the age of the male candidates should be between 18 and 27 years as on March 1, 2001, while that of female candidates should be between 18 and 27 years as on April 1, 2001. The minimum height of male candidates should be 5’-7”, with normal chest measurement of 33”, with 1.5” expansion. The female candidates should be of a minimum height of 5’-2” and preference would be given to shorthand, typing and computer literate ones. The candidates should be matriculate from a board or university recognised by the Board of School Education, Haryana.

Candidates belonging to SC/ST categories would be given relaxation of five years in age and one inch in height and chest each. Candidates of these category should be middle pass.
