‘Stress, tension related to infertility’
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, May 27
If the newly married girl is in her early twenties, do not burden her to have a baby soon. Parents and in-laws should give some time to the couple to settle down and understand each other. Stress, tension and burden can be some of the major factors contributing to infertility. This was stated here by Dr Neelam Sood, Senior Consultant and Scientist in Reproductive Medicine at Apollo Assisted Reproductive Unit (AARU) of Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals in New Delhi.

Dr Sood was here to attend a scientific symposium on “Menarche to Menopause and the Role of Progesterone”. Talking to mediapersons, Dr Sood said the relationship between doctors and patients should be transparent. Patients should be told frankly about their weaknesses. “A good doctor does not hide anything from his patient”, she added.

According to Dr Sood the history of patient was vital to cure infertility. Due to environmental factors, pollution, stress and intake of alcohol and smoking, the percentage of infertile couples was increasing in the country but the problem could easily be cured if given proper treatment.

“Patient has every right to know the various techniques used for his/her treatment.”

Dr Sood said nowadays semen banks exist where the identity of donor and recipient is not disclosed to anyone.
