7 bus passengers die in Poonch mishap
Jammu, May 19
Seven passengers were killed and 15 others injured, three of them seriously, when a video coach skidded off the road and fell into a gorge near Surankot in Poonch district today. Three critically injured persons were airlifted to Jammu Medical College, later on. The police said driver Joginder Singh and conductor Shakeel were among the dead. The other deceased include Dildar Hussain, a constable, Vipin Bhat, Rajender Prasad, Tariq Hussain and Ruchi Sharma. The bus had left Poonch early this morning for Jammu. Villagers and the police rushed to the spot to carry out rescue operations. TNS

ED summons Salman
Mumbai, May 19
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has once again summoned film actor Salman Khan next week to explain certain payments allegedly received by him from abroad. Salman, who played the lead role in the controversial film “Chori Chori Chupke Chupke”, was summoned by the ED on May 16 for questioning in the case involving Bollywood-underworld nexus. PTI

Jaya retains Home

After inducting 19 new faces into her Cabinet, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha today retained the Home portfolio and would handle the subject of Prevention of Corruption while she gave Finance and Law to senior Minister C. Ponnaiyan making him virtually number two. Ms Jayalalitha would look after the portfolios of Home, General Administration and Prevention of Corruption, an official press note said. PTI

Unprovoked firing
Jammu, May 19
Hardly a week after the meeting of the BSF and Pakistan Rangers in Jalandhar for maintaining peace along the Indo-Pak border, Pakistan today resorted to unprovoked firing targeting the fencing works and damaged at least 26 fencing poles in Samba sub-sector of Jammu region. According to the official sources, Pakistani Rangers fired several rockets and mortars targeting the fencing poles. UNI
