Forum issues warrants against Station Superintendent
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, May 12
For non-compliance of the order of the Punjab State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has issued conditional warrant against Station Superintendent of Ludhiana Railway Station T.R. Rana and imposed a fine of Rs 4,000.

In September last year, the commission had directed to pay Rs 17,000 as compensation to Mr R.L. Aggarwal, a retired professor. The commission had also directed to pay Rs 2,000 as cost of litigation to the consumer. But the order was not complied with by the authorities.

Now, the Station Superintendent has to pay the amount of compensation and in case of default, he will have to undergo a simple imprisonment of three months.

Mr R.L Aggarwal had got justice after a struggle of three years, but despite getting things done in the state commission, the order was not complied with by the authorities. Ultimately, he had to file a complaint under Section 27 of the Consumer Protection Act in the forum for non-compliance of the order.

Mr R.L. Aggarwal had parked his scooter in the parking at city railway station and was overcharged by the parking contractor. After that he had filed a complaint to the railway authorities and the contractor was fined Rs 5,00 but no relief was given to the consumer. Then, Mr Aggarwal decided to move to the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum but unfortunately, the forum dismissed the case on October 21, 1998, stating that “Overcharged amount was too trivial to be taken note of.” But Mr Aggarwal did not lose heart and appealed in the state consumer commission. But despite getting justice in the state commission, he is still waiting for the enforcement of the order.
