Dawood's hotel demolished
Mumbai, May 9
Three floors of an unauthorised hotel, allegedly belonging to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, were pulled down by the demolition squad of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation today. Hotel “Ashiana” was housed in a six-storeyed building in south Mumbai, one of the 25 buildings listed as unauthorised structures belonging to Dawood. UNI

R.K. Narayan critical
Chennai, May 9
Internationally-renowned writer R.K. Narayan, who was admitted to a city hospital two weeks ago following a breathing problem, turned critical tonight, according to doctors attending on him. Mr Narayan has been on a respiratory system for the past one week and his condition worsened tonight after he developed cardio-vascular problems. “His condition is waxing and waning. He has been put on ventilator now,’’ the doctor said. Born in 1906, Mr Narayan shot into limelight with his very first novel “Swami and Friends”. He has penned 16 novels altogether. UNI
