Mohali civic body chief on the mat SAS Nagar, April 25 Talking to mediapersons, Mr SS Patwari said work on boring a tubewell in Phase IX started on April 19 whereas the agenda item to divert the funds for the tubewell from Industrial Area, Phase I and II, to the residential area in Phase IX was put up for approval in the meeting of the civic body on April 23. He said the President had promised to get five tubewells bored by April but so far only two had been sanctioned. The Principal Secretary, Local Government Department, had marked an enquiry into the diversion of the sanctioned funds from one area to another. Mr Manjit Singh Sethi, said the civic body had never bothered to get the quality of water checked when taking over the new tubewells from the Sewerage Board. On the issue of the revised water and sewerage rates, they said the President had not informed the Public Health Department about the rolled back rates, thereby putting a burden on the residents. Mr Patwari said he had urged the government to take back the increased water and sewerage rates. Mr Manmohan Singh Langh said after an enquiry into the sale of wood at high rates at the local cremation ground was marked by the Chief Minister’s office on his complaint, officials of the civic body had approached him “for a compromise.” I have told them to refund the excess money charged from the kith and kin of the deceased and then I will talk on the issue”. Mr Sethi alleged that the record of the receipts issued at the cremation ground was being tampered with to avoid action against the guilty. |
Houses for cops
soon Chandigarh, April 25 The construction of 16 Type-4 houses in Sector 42 for inspectors and senior sub inspectors and 60 Type-3 houses in Sector 46 for sub inspectors and assistant sub inspectors has already been completed. The police is likely to take possession of these houses by the second week of May. The construction of 142 more Type-3 houses for police personnel in Sector 42 is likely to be finished by the end of this year. This will provide 218 non-gazetted officers with government accommodation. The police had decided to construct as many houses as possible for constables, head constables, sub inspectors and assistant sub inspectors here. Housing, road safety and police hospitals come under planned expenditure and each year about Rs 1 crore is allocated for building houses for policemen. All police inspectors are to be provided with free accommodation by the government. |
