Sahnewal, April 22
A free medical camp, covering 12 villages and Sahnewal town, was organised by the youth wing of the Shromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), today at Gurdwara Reru Sahib, Nandpur, near here.

Jathedar Balwinder Singh Bains, president, Youth Wing, SAD(A), presided over the camp which was jointly inaugurated by Bhai Dhyan Singh Mand, former member, Parliament, Ferozepore, Mr Charan Singh Luhara, General Secretary, SAD(A), Mr Jaskaran Singh, Mr Kahan Singh Wala, General Secretary, Youth Wing, Mr Amarjit Singh Makkar, industrialist, Mr Pritpal Singh Duabia and Mr Jaswinder Singh MWC, SAD(A).

Villagers from all over the area thronged in a large number to avail of the free medical aid which was provided at the camp. The doctors attending the patients were Dr Sanjeet Singh Grewal, MD, Medicine, Dr Deepak Gupta, eye specialist, Dr Mohinder Kaur, gynaecologist, Dr Gurdeep Singh, Dr Harjit Singh and Dr Bhupinder Singh.

According to Jathedar Balwinder Singh, ‘‘ Such vast number of patients speaks of the ignorance and poverty of the villagers. It seems that we are existing without any government which is not allowing RMP doctors to work in the villages and the MBBS doctors are not willing to go to the villages. So the villagers are left with no other alternative but to die a slow death. This is our second medical camp, the first was at Khanpur village . We are getting full moral support from the panchayats of the villages and the gurdwara parbandhak committee under the command of Mr Avtar Singh Bhola and the automobile shopkeepers’ association under the command of Mr Mulla Singh.’’

Mr Sarbjit Singh Baba, district president and Mr Jagbir Singh Saukhi, district senior vice-president said,‘‘We have pledged to root out disease from these villages. The patient is provided with every facility to get himself medically examined and any type of ailment, though time-taking in cure, would be dealt with at our expense and it is all with the sincere efforts of Mr Simranjit Singh Mann, President SAD,’’ they added.
