Dhawan faction asks Mayor to quit Chandigarh, April 21 Terming yesterday’s reported statement of Mr Goyal that he was helpless against the MCC Commissioner and the Chief Engineer as shameless, Mr Devinder Singh Babla, a close confidant of Mr Dhawan, alleged that differences between Mr Goyal and the Senior Deputy Mayor, Mr Gurcharan Dass Kala, were disheartening for Congressmen. The short sightedness of Mr Bansal and Mr Bahl could be gauged from the way Mr Goyal and Mr Kala were elected the Mayor and the Senior Deputy Mayor. At a time when the Congress had only five councillors, the Congress leaders engineered defections from the BJP to elect Mr Goyal and Mr Kala, he alleged. All developmental works had come to standstill and the House of MCC was in an paralytic situation. If such a scenario continued, the Congress would not be able to win even a single seat in the ensuing corporation poll. Condemning the statement of certain Congress leaders against Mr Dhawan yesterday, Mr Babla dared Mr Bansal and Mr Bahl to declare that Mr Dhawan and his supporters did not play any role in the victory of Mr Bansal. After his victory, Mr Bansal had conceded from many platforms that the Dhawan factor was crucial for his victory. This fact had been denied by the leaders of the Bansal-Bahl faction, he added. |
