Nominations open today
New Delhi, April 15
The formal process for the politically significant “mini general election” to five state assemblies on May 10 will be set in motion tomorrow with the issue of notification by the Governors, throwing open the field for filing of nominations. This will be the first time since the Vajpayee Government returned to power in October, 1999, that West Bangal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Pondicherry — would go to the polls together. PTI

With the ruling and the opposition legislators still at loggerheads over hike in power charges and Budget leak, the Rajasthan Assembly faces the prospect of another spate of stalled proceedings as the all-party meeting convened by the government today to resolve these issues was cancelled.
