Yukta Mookhey’s
debut IT'S not just her six feet plus height that overwhelmed me when I first met Yukta Mookhey (though I must confess that, while standing, I had to constantly ‘look up to her’ — literally!) However, in the comely presence of a stunning woman (and a "Miss World", at that), I’ve become immune to such trivial matters getting the better of me. Yukta has blossomed beautifully in the two years after she claimed the coveted crown. Now that her debut film is in the pipeline for an early release, Ms Mookhey is looking ravishing. The movie is titled Pyaasa and its maker is editor-turned-director A. Muthu. Yukta vehemently denies certain reports in the film media that the film "falls rather short of being an A-grade, commercial offering". Annoyed by such presumptions, Yukta is quick to retort: "I find todaymedia persons rather unsporting and callously irresponsible. Most of them run down films and newcomers for the heck of it! I think I’ve a terrific, heroine-oriented role in Pyaasa — a tough and strong-headed industrialist lady, with a natural arrogance..."Believe me, I’ve really enjoyed playing the part!" she smiles. Is Yukta Mookhey,
then, destined to have the last laugh over her detractors? |

Prodigal Pooja If you take a hard, long look at the actresses who’ve "quit" (sic) acting in films to opt for pastures new, you’ll find that most of ‘em have returned to the same old territory they’d left in disgust, okay? Now it’s Pooja Bhatt’s turn to do a ditto. Yes, she’s keen to come back to the big screen — to mainstream cinema — after having exhausted all her plans ‘n’ plots to produce feature films, do teleserials et al. Prodigal Pooja will soon be seen in Yeh Pyar Hee to Hai, with Saif Ali Khan! Hair today, gone tomorrow Incidentally, the number of heroines stepping into, not beauty parlours, but hairstyling salons has taken on epidemic proportions in Mumbai. Every time one meets a leading lady, one finds her sporting a newfangled hairstyle. Who was it that started this ‘mane’-ly mania... but some sources in Bollywood give me this nagging feel that it was when Raageshwari Sachdev shot her Hulle Hullare music video. And boy o’ boy, did she stump everyone with her cute, sexy looks! Taking a cue, heroines like, Rani Mukherjee and Shilpa Shetty and Tabu and Preity Zinta and Manisha Koirala and...(‘scuse me, I’m out of breath!) trooped in for a "new look" haircut! Now the guys.. After so many Bollywood babes tying the knot of late, it appears the time has come for many eligible fellows to lose their eligibility! Hrithik Roshan set the ball rolling, which was in a desperate dive backwards quickly caught by Akshay Kumar. Now, we have the likes of Aditya Chopra married to Payal Khanna; Rajiv (Chimpu) Kapoor to Aarti Sabharwal; Sameer Soni to Nafisa Joseph...and Goldie Behl to Sonali Bendre! And, lest I forget, on the "imminent" list happen to be Salman Khan with Aishwarya Rai; Sanjay Narang with Sushmita Sen...and Abhishek Bachchan with Karisma (Lolo) Kapoor. Omigosh! That means Sush has a fetish for "Sanjay" trotters and Lolo has actually dumped Jeh Wadia for good or better! |
