Special polio drive planned Chandigarh, March 14 According to Dr M.P. Minocha, Director, Family Welfare, during the campaign, children up to five years will be given the oral polio vaccine (OPV) in their homes itself. The mop-up campaign has been organised keeping in view a case of wild polio virus detected in the city in October 2000 while in the country as many as 264 paralytic polio cases were confirmed in the same year. Adopting a different strategy, as many as 64 supervisors, with about 300 teams will go from door to door under the campaign. The Health Department has mapped the area of the city and has identified 1,80,000 houses to be covered in this round. |
