FMD killed cattle, say PAU experts

After visiting the affected villages, where milch and other cattle died recently, veterinary experts of Punjab Agricultural University here declared that it was the foot and mouth disease which had claimed the lives of livestock in Ghaloti and neighbouring villages in this district.

Labourer dies as roof wall gives way

Income Tax Dept fixes 293 cr target
Ludhiana, March 12
The Income Tax Department has fixed Rs 293 crore as collection target in the Ludhiana range as compared to about Rs 220 crore target in the previous year. By the end of February, the department had already collected Rs 170 crore.

Punjab Board Class X, XII exams begin
Ludhiana, March 12
Thousands of students of Class X and XII appeared for their first annual examination conducted by the Punjab School Education Board in nearly 336 centres here today. Of the total centres, nearly 29 were set up in colleges, 113 in private schools and 194 in government schools.

Dr Kande is IMA state president
Ludhiana, March 12
Dr O.P.S. Kande was elected state president of the Indian Medical Association during a recent election held at local IMA house in BRS Nagar. Dr Kande defeated his rival with a margin of over 52 votes.

‘Abolish excise duty on pesticides’
Ludhiana, March 11
The government should abolish 16 per cent excise duty on pesticides to help farmers. The Finance Minister’s decision to provide tax holiday to the food processing industry will not help farmers in any significant manner, except the big industrial groups, said Mr Ram Gopal Agarwal, Chairman, Dhanuka Pesticides Group.
