Kalkat asks writers to be receptive to global changes
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, March 6
Dr G. S. Kalkat, Vice- Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University, has asked the Punjabi writers to become receptive to global changes, taking place at a fast pace and not to confine their writings around social and romantic themes.

Presiding over a function, organised by the Punjabi Sahitya Akademi, to mark the release of ‘Kashmakash’, a collection of stories written by noted Punjabi writer, Mr Baldev Singh Dhindsa, he said the whole world was undergoing a drastic change.

The WTO regime, he said, would lead to material changes in the farm economy, trade, production and social relations and the writers needed to observe the changing scenario minutely so that their writings truly reflected the mood and day-to- day problems of society.

Dr Kalkat observed that through his incisive creations, the writer had focussed on topical issues like the peasantry of Punjab, craze among the rural youth to settle abroad and problems arising after one left his motherland and settled in foreign countries. “The writer has not only precisely presented the mentality of people of Doaba region but has also cautioned the Punjabis against negative consequences of the mad race to go abroad.”

Prof Gurbhajan Gill, vice- president of the Punjabi Sahitya Akademi, explained in detail the stories penned by Dhindsa. “The writer has used the language like an artist and has done complete justice to the theme.”

Mr Parduman Singh Bedi, Editor of Mir, Mr. Prem Singh Bajaj, director, library, Punjabi Sahitya Akademi, Mr Karamjit Singh Aujla, organiser, Sirjandhara, Mr Kulwant Jagraon, renowned poet and secretary, Punjabi Sahitya Akademi, and Mr Mohinder Singh Grewal were also attended the function.
