Kids chat

Interactive schoolhouse community on Web

Hello kids and welcome to our weekly chat.

Fluppy: This time of the season is so dull, I really feel like going to the jungles.

Cliparti: Why jungles?

Fluppy: There is no school there. That is why.

Cliparti: And you think life in jungles is fun?

Fluppy: Yes, why not? Don’t you remember, Mowgli? He has such fun with all animals, especially the lovable bear, Babloo, and wise panther, Bagheera. Jungle must be fun.

Cliparti: And what about the mean tiger, Sher Khan who is always after Mowgli’s life?

Fluppy
: Oh, I forgot about him.

Cliparti: Revive your Mowgli tales from http://disney.go.com/...milyfilm/shelves/mowgli/home/homes.htm. You can even download pictures and video clips from the movie.

Fluppy: That means I can’t even go to the jungles I guess I’ll have to stay here only.

Windy: Go East or West, home is the best.

Cliparti: Nowadays kids are getting smarter day by day. They do what they want and go wherever they want sitting right in front of their computers.

Windy: Have you been to http://www.cyberkids.com/fg/ga/? Here you will find a shooting gallery, creative works, launch pad, learning centre, shopping and lots more. You can try out new games and series of adventure here.

Cliparti: Another lovely place to visit is at www.compuserve.com/gateway/kids. It has all favourite kids sites. And did you know schools in ______! Find about it and all Hot stuff. Meet Barbie, Harry Potter or Disney. Listen to the favourite music and watch movies. Have lots of fun and play games or create with various activities to do.

Windy: One lovely place to create and play is at http://mamamedia.netscape.com/create_play.htm. There’s a lot of cool stuff to do here. You can create and play, or visit some awesome Web sites or the kid’s gallery. There is also homework help for you. Other places to go are the arts & crafts area, or books, magazines, comics and cartoons. You can look for a suitable hobby for yourself. What’s more it also has clubs and contests just for you.

Fluppy: Yeah, all this is fine. But schools remain schools, don’t they?

Cliparti: Why do you shirk from school?

Windy: Examination time, don’t you see.

Fluppy: Not exactly! I think my school is not good enough.

Cliparti: Well! Well! Then which school is good enough? One, which does not hold examinations?

Fluppy: I don’t know. But something based more on the 21st century norms.

Windy: I have something exactly for you. Visit this 21st century schoolhouse at http://www.21cs.org/schmodel.htm. See if you approve of this model. In case you do, you can send your suggestions to your own Principal and see what she can do for you.

Fluppy: Apart from rusticating me from school?

Windy: No, No. You never know she might like your suggestions.

Cliparti: Yeah, there is no harm going through this 21cs. After all, with changing times these schooling patterns should also change. Only then, I think children like Fluppy will go to school more willingly. What does it have, anyway?

Windy: An interactive schoolhouse community comprising of various countries like Oregon, Brazil, Botswana, Uganda, Japan, Australia, Palestine, Krygyzstan and yes, India too is formed. They all are working towards schoolhouse 2000. You can see their work and participation in educators’ conference, the environmental health projects and other 2000 activities. A schoolhouse Web chat is available and you can send in your messages that will be translated into other languages if the need arises. You can also read the global Eco magazine that is created by the students at the educator’s conference. So go ahead know more about the organisation and its framework. See what the partners are contributing and sign it as a guest.

Fluppy: This will certainly be an interactive way of learning. I hope these changes get incorporated while I am still in school.

Cliparti: Even if they don’t, you can incorporate all the changes once you grow up and open up your own school.

Windy: Fluppy and grow up? I wonder if he ever will!

Cliparti: No, Windy. You don’t know how time flies. He’ll soon be a teenager, and then an adult and then _____!!

Windy: God knows how many centuries he’ll take for the journey from kids to teens.

Fluppy: A few seconds, I say.

Windy: Howzzat?

Fluppy: With a few clicks I’ll come to http://www.kidz2teens.com/ and be a teen.

Cliparti: Ha, Ha, See how he fooled you!

Windy: You know I was talking of being a real teenager and not any site.

Fluppy: That’s how you fool me, don’t you?

Windy: Okay, but you have any idea what’s in this site you’re talking about? You just can’t say any name and say it’s a site.

Fluppy: Of course I know. It talks about lots of adventures, chats, leisure times, disasters, surroundings, inventions, health, beauty, fitness, careers etc. See, it has all the big stuff. Fit for teens, eh?

Cliparti: Good Fluppy. I’ve heard it also has some discussions and a complete medical guide.

Fluppy: Yes, Yes.

Windy: I don’t think.

Cliparti: At this rate I don’t think Fluppy will take long to grow up. Isn’t it?

Windy: We’ll see.
