InoculateIT

Are you sick of being bitten by the virus bug because your anti-virus software is old and you don’t want to spend money on buying one? Inoculate anti-virus could just be the right thing for you. It’s free, small to download and allows regular upgrades at no cost. Inoculate is good not just for your desktop or the laptop, but even if you use a Palm handheld device, Inoculate would now stop viruses from being HotSynced to your Palm. Inoculate uses heuristic scanning that enables the detection of new viruses that are just new. For instance, if we have detection in place for a family of macro viruses, the heuristics ensure that any new variant is likely to be detected and cleaned. This is installed by default for maximum protection. Where possible, Inoculate will clean the registry and /or any .ini files that a virus has written to. The best part about Inoculate is that is free and can be upgraded everyday automatically. The software can be downloaded from www.antivirus.cai.com

Listening to music on the Net could never be so much fun without Spinner Plus. The software takes advantage of RealAudio G2 technology to let you listen to over 130 channels of high-quality music streamed over your stable Internet connection. Each channel features a different genre of music, such as Awesome 80s, Trance, Modern Mix, Urban Divas, Delta Blues, and Smooth Jazz. The artist, song, album, and channel are displayed in the program’s attractive interface, as are the names of the next two artists coming up. You can rate each song on a 1-10 scale, punch a button to buy the current song’s album at Amazon.com, get artist information, and "enjoy" banner ads and audio commercials from various sponsors (which make the program free). Options let you keep the program on top or minimise it to a toolbar. No-cost registration is required the first time you run the program. This version includes five types of skins. SpotOn

Increase the power of your Internet Explorer bookmark with the help of SpotOn. This software organises the bookmark into a really usable resource. This freebie adds a button to your browser: click it to display the SpotOn bar where you can add bookmarks, rate each site, and create tours of related sites. SpotOn does two smart things with your bookmarks. First, it pre-loads sites, so while you view the first page of a tour — say a selection of news and weather sites you like to check each morning — SpotOn loads the rest of the tour in the background. When you click the Next button, the next site in the tour loads almost instantly. SpotOn also stores your favourites on its servers. That means you can access your favourites from any computer connected to the Internet. The software can be downloaded from several sites on the Net including www.internetional.tucows.com/winntrating.html

RegClean

This utility from Microsoft can really enhance the power computing on your desktop. RegClean is a free utility from Microsoft that’s designed to remove errors from the Windows 95/NT Registry. These errors usually consist of corrupted, unused, or unnecessary information. The program scans your Registry for problems and provides you with the option of cancelling or automatically fixing the errors. It creates an Undo.reg file in the RegClean folder; double-clicking on the file in Explorer reverses the deletions or modifications and returns the values to the Registry. Although RegClean is designed to improve the state of your Registry, it intentionally errs on the side of caution (better safe than sorry), and leaves many questionable entries behind. In addition, the size of your Registry files remains intact — no matter how many entries are removed. This can be procured from www.143.107.194.165/pub/Windows/Microsoft/
