St Stephen’s boys win six-a-side hockey meet

CHANDIGARH , Feb 4 — The six-a-side hockey tournament for school boys of Chandigarh and its periphery concluded today in the Sector 41 Shivalik Public School. The tournament was organised by an Indian hockey portal promoted by Sandeep Mishra, a journalist.The tournament was aimed at encouraging youngsters to take up hockey. The matches were played on a basketball court that was turned into a small hockey field with goalposts of roller hockey. Mr D.S. Bedi, Director-Principal of the school, said indoor hockey
would be introduced in the SAS Nagar branch of the school after synthetic courts were laid there. He said the hall would also be used for tennis, badminton, volleyball and basketball. The final match was played today under floodlights. In the juniors section, Speed Stephens of the Sector 45 St Stephen’s School beat Vivek Nights of Vivek High School, 8-1, after leading, 3-1, at halftime. Aseem scored five goals Gurparkash two and Deepanshu one. All matches of the meet were played with coloured balls. In the final of the seniors section today, Shivalik Lions beat Shivalik Tigers, 6-2, after leading, 5-1, at halftime. Balbir Singh, a former Olympian, was the chief guest. Tarlochan S.Bawa, another former Olympian was also there. TT meetOn the second day of The Tribune Table Tennis Tournament here today, Rajiv Bajaj, Surinder Puri, Vinod Jaidhka and Parmod Lama entered the semi finals of the meet in above 40 age group.
