GNPS team wins dance trophy

LUDHIANA, Jan 28 — The Castle Learning Centre organised an inter-school dance contest on the occasion of a prize distribution function held at the Ludhiana Club here last evening.

Students of nine schools participated in the contest. The team of Guru Nanak Public School stood first, while that of Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, was declared second. The teams of Guru Nanak International School, Gujarkhan Campus, and Baba Isher Singh School together won the third prize.

A beauty contest was also organised in which Arvinder Juneja clinched the ‘Castle Queen’ title and Anmol Gill was declared ‘Castle Prince’.

Prizes were distributed among the winners of a maths test organised for Class X students in November last. Amandeep Grover of DAV Public School had stood first, Meyank Kukreja of BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School was declared second and Gurinder Pal Singh of Guru Nanak Public School secured third position.

The chief guest was Dr L.S. Chawla, former Vice-Chancellor, Baba Farid University of Heath Sciences. Ms Rima Juneja, in charge of the centre, appreciated the efforts of the school students.

600 awarded degrees

LUDHIANA, Jan 28 — Nearly 600 students of the Khalsa College for Women were awarded degrees by Dr R.S. Gujral, Vice-Chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, at the convocation held here today.

Of the total students, 317 girls were awarded degree for BA (general), 46 for BA (honours), 59 for BCom, 86 for MA in history, 12 for MA in fine arts and 53 for MA in political science. Nine students received roll of honour. Harpreet, Aradhana, Vandana, Jyoti, Baljinder and Ramandeep received roll of honour for academics, Ramanpreet and Harinder Hundal for cultural activities and Shruti Setia for NCC.

College colour was given to Sonal, Jimmy Ghai, Kawaljit, Ashua and Rashmi for academics while 53 other students were given college colour in sports. The cultural programme began with a Shabad. A folk song and plays were also presented.
