Six athletes to get specialised
training CHANDIGARH,
Jan 13 — The UT Administration has decided to send six athletes of the Chandigarh Police to the National Institute of Sports, Patiala, for special training there. Mr Bhim Sain Bassi, IGP, UT, Chandigarh, today introduced these six athletes to the UT Administrator Lieut-Gen J.F.R. Jacob (retd). The Administrator felt that records of these athletes were comparable to the national records and with professional coaching, they could do well in national as well as international events. Mr Ajay Kashyap, DIG, informed the Administrator that Mohinder Singh checked a time of 15.12 minute as against the national record of 13.29 minute in 5000 m race. Similarly, Sarwan Singh’s record was of 22.65 second in 200 m race against the national record of 21.04 second. Surinder Singh, in the event 110 m hurdle race, was clocking 15.8 second against the national average of 14.02 second. Kailash in javelin throw was having a record of 30 m against national average of 42 m. Joginder Singh was clocking a time of 35.33 minute in 10000 m race against the national average of 28 minute. Joginder Singh was clocking 2.07 minute in 800 m race against national average of 1.45 minute. The Administrator felt that the Chandigarh Police should lay special emphasis on sports and new recruits be encouraged in athletics and other related physical activities.
Boxing championships The Chandigarh Amateur Boxing Association will hold UT State Sub-Junior Boxing Championships at skating rink, Sector 10, on January 29 and 30. During the championships, the UT team will be selected for participation in the 16th National Sub-Junior Boxing Championships to be held in Chennai from February 6 to 11.
PCA meeting A meeting of the executive committee of the Punjab Cricket Association will be held tomorrow at 3 pm at PCA Cricket Stadium, SAS Nagar. The meeting will take cognisance of the show cause notice issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India to finalise the stand of the association. The committee will also discuss other related matters concerning the association’s relationship with national body and other agencies. |
